You state that your turkeys are grown in PA by the same farm that's been supplying the White House for over 30 years. Would that be Jaindl Farms? If so, is there any difference between the way they raise their turkeys and how they're raising them for Bell & Evans? Is it their exclusive breed of turkey that you're selling? Thank you.

Scott,
Does Bell & Evans use growth hormones in their chickens, and in particular, in the breaded chicken tenders.
Thank you.

Pat,
Thank you for your comment. In our chicken houses both male and female chickens live together. We do not "discard" the male chicks. We at Bell & Evans like to think that we are very different from others in the poultry industry and do not practice the same standards that they do. I invite you to read my previous blog entries and you can see for yourself that our practices and standards are far from the others. You can be confident that Bell & Evans do not participate in those "barbaric" methods.

Marla,
No, we do not separate the male and female chickens. We raise both sexes in our chicken house together. It has been proven that male and female chickens are happy companions. Male and female chickens who live together have lower stress levels. I will consider your suggestion for an upcoming blog entry. Thank you for your comment.

Hi, I just learned that in some of the large commercial chicken producers, male baby chicks are discarded right after birth because they have no use in the chicken industry. The methods used to kill these babies is by grinding alive, smothering and other barbaric methods. Whole Foods assured me that there is no way they would buy a chicken from an organization that treats male baby chicks in this manner. How can I get information on how Bell & Evans handles male baby chicks. I hope the answer will be that they have a lovely life until processed for the store, just like the hens. Please advise. I haven't had a chicken or an egg and I won't until I know I'm getting my chicken from sources that does not engage in these practices.

Look forward to hearing back

Does Bell & Evans discard the male chicks, and if so, how is it done humanely? Also, please blog about how your company ensures humane treatment of the birds during slaughter.
Thank you,
Marla
